The Beginning.... of my Internship!

Ok... so I've been a little busy, but haven't forgotten about my blog! (Don't worry Jen!)  In the past month, I have began my internship, began adjusting more to living with my parents again, began adjusting to no school but 40 hours a week at work (I have turned into an old person!), and began mine and Cory's third year together.  That's a lot for one month!

My internship started the first week of January and has been going great.  Personally, I get really nervous starting a new job but everyone is so nice! I work with about 15 girls and like all of them.  They have all been so sweet and helpful.  Although I majored in fashion merchandising, I have never worked in a clothing retail store.  Let's just say I love it but it is not financially healthy for me! Everyday I think I need something new and it's getting a little rediculous! I have got to start saving my money though! Every week I have to report back to Georgia Southern everything that I did/learned the previous week.  The last question is about joys and thrills that I experienced.  Here are a few so far:

  1. Visual Merchandising! aka worked on the window display for the store.  Here is a picture of the flowers I made for the window.

Look closely... the flowers are books! This was a lot of fun to do!

2.  I got my own desk!! I have never had my own desk before and this was especially exciting!
3.  I am learning how to design a website! I was sooo nervous about this project and it's actually going pretty well!
4.  I have met a lot of really sweet girls and love working with them as well as my boss! Lizard Thicket is a really positive, helpful learning environment and I don't think I could have chosen a better place to do my internship!

Apart from that, I have had lots of time to reconnect with old friends....

Also, I have been able to see some of my best friends from Statesboro! We all met in Atlanta for Alex's birthday and had so much fun!  It's good to know that just because I no longer live near them that we'll still stay in touch and be able to see each other!

Us at Andretti Raceway in Alpharetta! So much fun!

And Cory and I celebrated our anniversary in Atlantic Station at the Bodies Exhibit and Dialog in the Dark! If anyone every gets the chance to visit Dialog in the Dark DO IT! It was so awesome!

Instead of buying each other gifts for our anniversary (we're both short on money) we decided to write each other letters.  It was probably one of the best gifts I could have gotten.  Also, Cory sent me some beautiful flowers to work on the actual day of our anniversary.  He is so sweet and I appreciate him so much.  The first two years were a journey but they got us where we are today.  I love him so much and look forward to more years together!

So that was January... onto the next! I promise not to slack so much during February in blog world! Also, I am starting a blog for Lizard Thicket as well so everyone will have to check that out once it is up! I will keep you posted!

The Beginning.... of the New Year!!

I have had a great first couple of days of 2010 already and am starting to think of ways to make this year even better than the last! Resolutions, I figure, are the first step (even though most people do not keep them, I am going to try!!).  So as far as resolutions go, I start with probably the most common: LOSE WEIGHT! Obviously in college people gain weight (except for those freaks of nature that I'm extremely jealous of!) so my goal is to lose it!! I thought that if I blog about maybe it will keep me accountable! If I'm going to be honest with myself I probably need to lose about 30lbs... so that is my goal for this year.  I want to lose the weight the healthy way, through diet and exercise instead of scary diet pills! I'm waiting to get my internship schedule and planning my workout routine around it! Second, I need to work on being more financially responsibe (Step 1: I started a waytosave account!).  Before I am on my own completely I need to learn how to save money rather than buying a new outfit (I'm sure Lauren, my bestfriend and financial planner) will be happy to hear that!  Third, I am going to work on my patients and accepting people as they are instead of trying to change them.  These three resolutions, I feel, are a good place to start on my 2010 year of self improvement! (I sound like a Self-Help book! haha)

So what have I been doing this New Years so far? Cory and I went to Lake Wedowee for New Years Eve and stayed at Kayla McLain's.  We went with Kayla and her now fiance Matt. (Congratulations!! Her ring is beautiful by the way!!) We had a great time with our old friends! I graduated with Kayla and Cory graduated with Matt (from Newnan High). We did not know whether to celebrate New Years at Georgia's midnight or Alabama's so... we decided on both!

"Here's to a New Year, in a new place, with a new job, new goals, with old friends, a great boyfriend, and a loving family."

After our great night at Wedowee we headed back to Newnan to do the traditional New Years Day meals with Cory's family for lunch and my house for dinner (we ate incredibly too much, it was like Christmas all over again).  I do not like greens so I didn't eat any but I'm still crossing my fingers for wealth! Hopefully the extra black-eyed peas will make up for it!

Today, Lauren and I actually decided to carry on our gun-shooting traditions by going to shoot skeet at Cory's! We had lots of fun shooting shotguns, guns with scopes?, and pistols! Although we did not shoot any moving targets, we set up some stationary skeet and hit a few of those! It is nice to get outside sometimes (even though it was freezing!) and enjoy the great outdoors. I never knew there was so much beautiful land behind Cory's house, I want to do more exploring now!

The girls did not hit too many, but the boys did!! Cory hit almost every single one (we swear he was practicing before we got there!).

It has been a great year so far so I hope that it keeps up! My internship starts tomorrow and I'm very excited but very nervous! Have to go pick out an outfit! Hope everyone has had as great of a new years as I have!

The Beginning.... of my blog!

So you can say that I have been inspired... I saw my friend Jen's blog today (to say it is cute is an understatement) and decided that I should begin blogging.  I recently moved back to my home town, Newnan, to begin my internship and therefore my life outside of college.  Another understatement is that the real world frightens me.  I think that blogging about my adventures in Newnan, in my Internship, and in the real world will frankly, help me cope.

A little introduction... I am 22 years old and literally just moved back to Newnan from Statesboro.  Although I never thought Statesboro was anything wonderful (especially when it comes to shopping and restaurants) I already miss it! Under the direction of my best friend, Lauren, I have decided it is probably best that I live with my parents and sister during my internship to save some money.  That in itself (sorry mom, dad, and sydney) is going to be a big adjustment!  My family is awesome but I am used to living alone and having my privacy as well as not having to do my dishes as soon as I was done eating! (mom is a bit of a neat freak) Despite the OCD cleanliness, I love them.  I also live with two dogs and two cats now.  Giz, my puppy, and Ollie/Oliver are the two dogs and they are wonderful. Also in Newnan are my great friends from highschool (some from middle and even elementary school) and my great boyfriend, Cory.  Cory (aka Co Co), has been my boyfriend for around two years now (we are currently in the middle of picking out an anniversary date that will be at the end of January... the 29th maybe?).  He is pretty wonderful.  Although he is not "in your face" romantic, he is sweet in his own ways.  ( I find myself trying to think like him to find the romance and love in his actions and words). I love him. My friends from Newnan are also pretty great and will help me with how much I miss my friends from Statesboro.

All in all, I think living in Newnan will be a huge adjustment but will be a good chance to spend time with family and old friends.  Here are just a few pictures of my "support group" that I'm sure will help me through my transition into the real world:

Kelli, Me, Anna, and Lauren (my best friends from highschool)

Tina, Cara, Me, Jen, and Laura

Me and Cory

These people, along with my family, are the ones that keep me sane and support me everyday. I'm sure they will be mentioned a lot through my blogging adventure!
